ASK QUESTIONS/COMMENT - WASTE MANAGEMENT LANDFILL EXPANSION/EPA SUPERFUND SITE EXHUMATION Waste Management of Wisconsin proposes to expand its Menomonee Falls landfill. The land it wants to use was formerly a toxic waste dump. It is currently a Superfund site, sealed off to protect human health and the environment. Superfund sites are overseen by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In order to complete the expansion, the toxic waste would need to be dug up. Some are concerned that dangerous chemicals could be released into the air, soil, and water during the process. WHAT IF I MISSED THE PUBLIC HEARING?…

Government , , , , , ,
WASTE MANAGEMENT LANDFILL EXPANSION/EPA SUPERFUND SITE EXHUMATION - PUBLIC INFORMATION HEARING Waste Management of Wisconsin has proposed to redevelop a current EPA Superfund site in Menomonee Falls so that it can expand its landfill operations. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced an upcoming public hearing on the matter. Please consider that the primary issue is not the expansion itself, rather the EPA Superfund site that Waste Management requests to disturb and the impact of its exhumation on human and environmental health. We want to ensure our community and the surrounding municipalities are not harmed by the proposed…

American Jobs Plan

BIDEN 2021 AMERICAN JOBS PLAN The American Jobs Plan is considered President Biden’s opening bid on improving infrastructure. Going forward, the administration will negotiate with Congress and develop the final American Jobs Plan bill. Then, the infrastructure bill will likely be negotiated again before it secures votes to pass. It is for these reasons that we should speak up right away about why we back the President's plan. The White House says: The U.S. is the wealthiest country in the world, yet we rank 13th when it comes to the overall quality of our infrastructure. After decades of disinvestment, our roads,…

Menomonee Falls Landfill Expansion

Government, In the News , , ,
MENOMONEE FALLS LANDFILL EXPANSION You might have heard about a potential expansion of the Menomonee Falls landfill, at the possible cost of excavating a capped Superfund site. Some have suggested that redeveloping this Superfund site could introduce more risks to human health and the environment than leaving the site capped. We are still researching the matter. For more information, read our briefing and links to news reports from Northwest Now in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other outlets. Soon, we may suggest writing a letter if you would support having a public information hearing prior to this process moving forward.…

WI REPUBLICANS VOTE TO END COVID-19 PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY REPORT: TIME SENSITIVE ACTION ITEM Wisconsin Republicans in the Senate and Assembly are voting to end our statewide COVID-19 public health emergency, issued by Governor Evers. This would undo our statewide mask mandate as COVID-19 continues to endanger Wisconsinites. If it passes, Evers cannot veto it under Wisconsin law. It is vital that every one of us contacts our State Senator (Alberta Darling) and State Assemblyperson (in Menomonee Falls, it could be either Janel Brandtjen or Dan Knodl) to let them know that we need this public emergency and mask mandate…
