PHOTOS: FOR THE PEOPLE ACT EVENTS
events held on June 29, 2021 and June 30, 2021
Day 1: Rally at Appleton & Menomonee
Menomonee Falls Action Team held a rally urging the public to protect the right to vote and support the For The People Act.
Two dozen voters held signs visible to over 5,000 vehicles during the two-hour demonstration at Appleton & Menomonee in afternoon rush hour. Some signs directly called on Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) to defend democracy.
Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) is a co-sponsor and supporter of the bill, while Johnson has yet to show his support.
Day 2: Ron Johnson Office Visit in Milwaukee
Then, a small committee representing Menomonee Falls Action Team visited Sen. Ron Johnson’s office in downtown Milwaukee. Unfortunately, the office staff indicated that the Senator was in Washington, D.C. even though it is his State Work Period. The group met with his staff and discussed why democracy should be nonpartisan, as well as how passing the For The People Act serves all of Johnson’s constituents.
The events were part of a nationwide initiative called “Deadline for Democracy” with partners including MoveOn, End Citizens United Action Fund, Indivisible, Declaration for American Democracy Coalition, and Stand Up America.
