RELEASE: DEMOCRATS IN CONSERVATIVE MENOMONEE FALLS KNOCK ‘HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS’ OF DOORS OVER WEEKEND
The Effort Was Part of a Statewide ‘#1Year2Win’ Campaign
MENOMONEE FALLS, Nov. 4, 2019/Menomonee Falls Action Team/- A group of citizen activists advocating for progressive policies and positive change within the political system continued its year-round organizing push across Menomonee Falls, dispatching over four dozen volunteers to knock doors. The effort by Menomonee Falls Action Team in one of Wisconsin’s reddest communities is bested only by its GOTV campaign during the 2018 midterms.
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin, along with county parties and neighborhood action teams around the state, collectively knocked over 50,000 doors this past weekend, including hundreds and hundreds in Menomonee Falls. Democrats said the action–dubbed ‘#1Year2Win’–begins a course of regular door to door canvassing to engage voters all the way through election day 2020.
“We’re mainly in listening mode at this stage, focused on learning the issues people are dealing with and how they think the current Administration and Republicans are handling them,” said Chris Byrnes, the team’s lead organizer. “It’s about forging relationships. So far, the data coming back to us says many Independents and moderate Republicans are prepared to vote Democratic, with the right candidates.”
Grassroots organizations across the Midwest are paying attention. Both the Indivisible Chicago Alliance and Swing Left Chicago sent canvassers to be trained and help knock doors in Menomonee Falls. Their experience in Wisconsin received national media coverage.
