HOW YOU CAN HELP ELECT MORE DEMOCRATS
It’s an amazing feeling taking action to elect candidates you actually believe will act consistent with your values. When taking part in this aspect of MFAT, there are a few ways you can contribute.
THE CANVASSER
A canvasser is a person who goes door-to-door and talks with specific Menomonee Falls voters.
Your mission is to have a brief conversation. Here is how a typical canvass goes:
- You let the voter know there are Democrats in Menomonee Falls (like you) and great candidates who share our progressive values.
- You ask brief survey questions to help us better know and serve our neighbors. That data is recorded on a clipboard or tablet.
- Sometimes there is literature to hand out on candidates, issues, or important information relevant to the community.
Most of the people on our lists have been canvassed before and are considered friendly Democrats. We do occasionally talk with Independents and Republicans. The majority are courteous and respectful to our canvassers, just like you.

THE DRIVER
Our canvassers need drivers!
Some find it challenging to manage a clipboard and literature, navigate, drive, and bring A-game to every door. Therefore, if the canvasser does not have to drive, they can focus on how best to approach the voter on their list, get their literature together, and be ready to go.
The driver role is great for someone who isn’t able to canvass themselves.
- In some instances, you plan the route and navigation. Whether you enter everything into GPS or use your knowledge of the area, the canvasser hops out at each door.
- Another method is for the canvasser to tell you where and how to drive.
You will find a rhythm with your canvasser.
Working together with a driver is also great for support when canvassers feel like they need a cheerleader or they encounter a bad seed.
THE PHONE CALLER
We hold weekly phone banks to recruit volunteers for the many roles you’re reading about right now.
As a caller, you will be contacting people who previously said they were interested in volunteering or providing help in some way.
Phone banks are fun because you are with fellow members doing the same thing. You can share tips on what works for you, listen to how someone else does it, or tell your favorite or worst call ever stories!
A different available option is for you to make these calls from home on your own time.

THE HOST
We are always looking for new locations to hold our events.
Starbucks, the public library, people’s homes–we’ve done it all. We think the best events happen when a member hosts an event. Everyone is more comfortable and can get to know each other, and there’s room to spread out and hear any instructions or training.
So if you can’t canvass, call, or drive, offer up your home for a few hours! It’s a great way to help us.
THE ADMIN
We need volunteers to complete miscellaneous administrative tasks like sorting, filing, stapling, applying labels, etc. This work can be done at the event or meeting location, or at your home or business.
